Chocolate Week

marococo barsRococo’s approach to chocolate is eclectic, eccentric, sensual and feminine in a world of macho chocolates. Founder Chantal Coady believes that: “chocolate should be honest and not pompous” and so Rococo leads the way in offering new and surprising combinations to titillate the senses.

Chantal Coady, the founder of Rococo, first opened her shop in Kings Road twenty five years ago, in 1983. Her passion for chocolate lured her away from textile design, in which she graduated, and gave her the idea for the business. However, her flair for design was not lost and can be seen in the in the packaging, the shop and indeed in the use of unusual ingredients in the chocolates themselves.

There are many words that can describe Rococo: irresistible, tempting, scrumptious, delicious, natural, mouth-watering, artisan and Gold Award winning. They are all true, but only half the story.

Coady is known standing on the chocolate “soapbox” and fighting the corner of fine chocolate in a country which has been dominated by industrially produced, sugar filled confectionery. Recently awarded “Lifetime achievement award” by the Academy of Chocolate for “Changing the way people think about chocolate”.

With the new shop at Motcomb St, Coady has realised her dream of having a Chocolate House, where you can drink hot chocolate, and make your own chocolate at the School, as well as the beautiful MaRoCoCo courtyard garden at the back.

The highlight of Chocolate Week is on 16th and 17th October, Vinopolis plays host to this decadent, dedicated chocolate show.

Chocolate Unwrapped features the UK’s finest chocolate companies including Artisan du Chocolat, William Curley, Paul a Young, Rococo, Hotel Chocolat, Thorntons and many more, chocolate experiences, links to cacao plantations, tastings, a chocolate wall, chocolate art and sculptures and even chocolate personality readings.

Tickets are £10 on the door or £7.50 in advance. More information and ticket purchases can be found at www.chocolate-unwrapped.co.uk.

amazon.co.uk reviews

This book does an analysis of it’s reader in 3 parts. First by the shape of chocolate (e.g. circle, square etc.), then by the centre (e.g. nougat, fudge, hard toffee etc.), and then by what you do with the wrapper (scruncher, sculptor etc.).

An innovative approach to peoples relationship with Chocolate from Doctor “Choc”. The author has analysed chocolate behaviours and provided a road map that it both fun and compelling, whether for individuals. partners or the whole family. Definitely a book for the curious and the lively spirited.

If you love chocolate and wish to taste and learn more about this wonderful food then make sure you get your tickets for the UK’s premier chocolate event, Chocolate Unwrapped.

Are you a chocoholic craving to savor the rich flavor of chocolate melting in your mouth? If the answer is yes, you will love this coming week, which is American Chocolate Week, beginning March 14 through March 20. What better way to kick off American Chocolate Week than with a recipe that has a kick and exudes the latest taste sensation, chili and chocolate, according to the Chocolate Report. It is a Chili Chocolate Cake found on a luscious website, La Dolce Italia, “devoted to Italian sweets and dessert wines.”

Tribute to a ‘perfect’ food

In case you’re not up on your chocolatiering studies, it has been said that chocolate is one of the most perfect foods consumed by man. It contains essential vitamins and minerals, is high in antioxidants, and is good for cholesterol and cardiac health.

A research study by The Netherlands showed that eating the equivalent of one-third of a chocolate bar every day could lower blood pressure and also reduce the risk of death by up to 50 percent. Of course, like all foods, chocolates should be consumed in moderation.

Chili Chocolate Cake: Tortino di cioccolato al Peperoncino

High praise for our in-house Chocolatier :)

However for me, and those also fortunate to attend, the pièce de résistance was the chocolate baking class with Laurent at Rococo chocolates. Imagine! a baking experience with one of the leading chocolatier and patissier experts. The first baking event of this nature they have run, it was not only informative but also personalized with the opportunity afterwards to sit and feast on our made-chocolates. Driven by their founder Chantal Coady, the event was the perfect end to the perfect week of chocolate indulgence.

Our chocolate wedding dress had a nice little outing during Chocolate Week as part of a chocolate sculpture exhibition at Chocolate Unwrapped.

Rococo Chocolate Wedding Dress

It’s been causing quite a stir, so here’s a closer look at how we made it.

Chantal Coady and Ian Stuart of Ian Stuart Brides had been talking about creating a chocolate wedding dress for years, and Chocolate Week 2008 seemed the perfect opportunity to combine Ian’s distinctive style and Rococo’s creative approach to chocolate.

The dress started with underskirts and one of Ian’s bodices dipped in chocolate. Laurent, our chocolatier, made panels of intricate white chocolate curls and truffles to decorate the bodice. More panels were layered up on netting to cover the skirt.
